Ministry Name: Deacons
Chairperson: Deacon Clinton Cole
Mission Statement: The mission of the Deacons’ ministry is complex and can be “best” summed up by the following three major actions:
1. Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people
2. Assist the Church in Accomplishing its Mission
3. Care for God’s people in the church and in the community
The Deacon is appointed to serve the church in any area of need that might arise. They have a supportive role in spiritual ministry of the church. Deacons must be committed and faithful. They must walk upright before God’s people as an example.
Second Baptist Church has a deacon’s ministry whose primary functions are to oversee the spiritual needs of the parishioners and to assist the pastor. To that effect, we have divided the church membership into wards according to last names. If you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact your ward deacon.
In Acts 6, we find these words, “And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, who we may appoint over this business. But we give ourselves continually to prayer, and to ministry of the word.” To this end, please understand that the pastor cannot do it all alone, thus he depends heavily upon the deacons for assistance.
